Chicken Lo Mein It's always such a treat whenever I get to go to an Asian market in my city. Soy sauce - I used both low sodium soy sauce and dark soy sauce for this chicken lo mein recipe. There are many benefits to making your favorite Chinese takeout meal at home — and that includes chicken lo mein! You can have Chicken Lo Mein using 13 ingredients and 8 steps. Ingredients of Chicken Lo Mein

  1. Prepare 1 lb of boneless skinless chicken breast - cut to 1/4" slices.
  2. Prepare 1/4 cup of soy sauce.
  3. You need 1 tbs of oyster sauce.
  4. You need 2 tsp of minced garlic.
  5. Prepare 3 tbs of vegetable oil - divided.
  6. Prepare 4 oz of crimini mushrooms - thinly sliced.
  7. It's 1 of small yellow onion - thinly sliced.
  8. It's 1 of orange bell pepper thinly sliced.
  9. You need 2/3 cup of chicken broth.
  10. Prepare 2 tsp of cornstarch.
  11. It's 16 oz of cooked spaghetti noodles - chilled.
  12. Prepare 1/4 cup of chopped green onions.
  13. Prepare 2 tsp of sesame oil (optional).

Lo mein is a Chinese dish with egg noodles. It often contains vegetables and some type of meat or seafood, usually beef, chicken, pork, shrimp or wontons. It can also be eaten with just vegetables. You can find lo mein noodles in the Asian foods section of most major supermarkets.

Chicken Lo Mein step by step

  1. In a medium bowl wisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, and minced garlic. Add sliced chicken. Stir to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in fridge for 1 hr..
  2. Heat a wok or large deep sided skillet over medium high heat until very hot. Add 2 tbs oil..
  3. When oil "shimmers" add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Stir fry until al dente. About 4 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl. Set aside..
  4. Increase heat to high. Add 1 tbs oil to wok/skillet. As soon as it "shimmers" add chicken along with all the marinade..
  5. Stir fry until chicken is cooked through and marinade has reduced some. About another 5 minutes. Return veggies to wok/skillet. Stir to heat through and coat with sauce..
  6. Reduce heat to medium. Wisk together chicken broth and cornstarch. Stir into chicken and veggies. Simmer until sauce thickens. About 2-5 minutes more..
  7. Add cold noodles. Toss to coat. Cook until noodles are just heated through. Stir in green onions..
  8. If desired drizzle with sesame oil and stir to combine. Garnish with additional green onions when serving. Enjoy!.

If you can't find lo mein, you can substitute linguine or spaghetti. This chicken lo mein is sauteed chicken and vegetables tossed with egg noodles in a savory sauce. A remake of the take out favorite that tastes even better than the restaurant version! I love Chinese takeout, it's one of my all time favorites.
